What is the GAP Program?
The GAP Program is The Actors’ Hub Australia’s professional actor training pathway.
It is designed for actors who want to build real foundations, deepen their craft, and develop the discipline, resilience and skill required for stage and screen performance.
Rather than offering disconnected short courses, the GAP Program gives students a progressive training journey:
-
First year – GAP I – foundations, confidence, technique and performance practice
-
Second year – GAP II – development, challenge and expanded performance demands
-
Third year – GAP III – independence, industry readiness and professional-level practice
Across the program, students build skills in acting, voice, movement, improvisation, text analysis, audition technique, screen acting, rehearsal and public performance.
Because each stage builds on the last, you are able to grow with structure instead of starting over each time.
Who is the GAP Program for?
The GAP is for actors who are ready to take their training seriously.
It is especially suited to people who:
-
want a more professional acting pathway in Perth
-
feel stuck between “wanting to act” and actually doing it
-
have done some acting before and want to return with structure
-
want consistent coaching, rehearsal and performance experience
-
are interested in both theatre and screen work
-
want to build confidence, discipline and industry readiness
If you are looking for a casual drop-in class, this may not be the right fit. However, if you want progress, structure matters.
GAP I: Your Starting Point
GAP I is the first year of the program and the most important step.
You train 16 hours per week across 33 weeks, which allows you to build real skill through repetition and practice. As a result, you begin to feel more confident and capable in your work.
Training includes:
-
acting technique
-
voice and movement
-
improvisation
-
text work and character development
-
screen acting fundamentals
-
rehearsal and performance practice
GAP I also includes a strong performance outcome structure, with assessments and performance outcomes so instead of just learning concepts, you get to apply them in performance settings .
What You Actually Develop
First year is about more than “confidence.”
It develops the practical foundations actors need in order to be castable, directable and creatively alive in the room.
Through consistent training, you begin to:
-
connect more naturally with scene partners
-
understand and interpret text more clearly
-
use your voice and body with greater control
-
take direction and adjust your performance
-
build confidence through doing the work
This means you are not just “interested” in acting — you are actively becoming an actor.
GAP II — Development and Expansion
GAP II: Develop Range, Depth and Performance Strength
After building the fundamentals, GAP II expands the actor’s range and raises the artistic demand.
The uploaded assessment and outline material shows work across:
-
physical performance
-
major text performance
-
film performance
-
Shakespeare performance
-
genre and style work
-
audition technique
-
laboratory-style performance development
This is where actors begin to push beyond basic competency and into greater specificity, depth and versatility.
GAP III — Industry Readiness
GAP III: Professional Preparation for the Working Actor
GAP III moves toward professional independence and industry readiness.
The course outline includes advanced work in:
-
screen acting
-
solo writing
-
expressive mask work
-
verbatim theatre
-
text analysis
-
impersonation
-
self-testing
-
on-camera promo work
-
editing awareness
-
marketing and career-building
-
audition consolidation
-
script reading
-
advanced vocal and physical training
It also culminates in high-level performance outcomes, including 4x4x4, where final-year students conclude their training with four plays over four days across four weeks.
Why this pathway matters
A lot of aspiring actors in Perth stay stuck in one of two places:
-
they keep waiting until they feel “ready”
-
or they do bits and pieces of training without a clear pathway
The GAP Program is designed to solve that.
It gives actors:
-
a consistent training rhythm
-
professional expectations
-
meaningful performance outcomes
-
deeper artistic discipline
-
clearer progression from training to industry
Why train at The Actors’ Hub?
At The Actors’ Hub, training is designed to connect craft with professional practice.
This means students are not only developing technique, but also learning how to work in rehearsal rooms, in productions, on camera, and in the real demands of an acting career.
The broader pathway shown in your uploaded one-pager also positions the program as a progression from beginning and part-time study into a professionally focused, industry-connected training track, with links into The Actors’ Hub Studios and advanced member pathways.
